Ingredients
- ½ pound ground mild Italian sausage
- 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1½ tablespoons Mama Mia™ Marinara Sauce Mix
- 2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls dough
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 24 pepperoni slices, divided
- 1 large eggs, beaten
- 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese or sesame seeds
- fresh basil leaves, for garnish, optional
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook and crumble sausage until no longer pink; drain off liquid. Stir in tomato sauce and Mama Mia Marinara Sauce Mix; reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
- To assemble first pizza, remove crescent rolls from 1 tube and separate. On a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper, lay out 4 triangles in a straight line along the short ends, slightly overlapping the dough about ½ inch. Starting with the fifth triangle, begin curving the head of the candy cane.
- Spread half of meat sauce over the thickest part of each triangle closest to the center. Top with ½ cup cheese and 12 slices pepperoni. Gently pull triangle tips up and over the pizza toppings, tucking tips under bottom layer to secure. To assemble second pizza, repeat the same process with remaining meat sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni.
- Brush dough with beaten egg. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and/or sesame seeds. Bake 17-20 minutes or until golden brown. Garnish each pizza with a few basil leaves for a “bow” if desired.
- Makes 6 servings.
